Ohinemuri County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers, Paeroa, on Saturday last. Present : Crs Moore (chai.-raan), Nicholls,Dearie, Strange, Robson, Nash, and Quinn. The minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and confirmed. Tenders : Contract No. 274, metalling Rahu road : E. Bein, £3 16s 8d ; T, Cummings, L 4 ; T. Doherty (accepted), £3 13s 4d. Contract No. 269 : Metalling Arney street: E. Bein, £6B 5s ; T. Quinn, £53 Is 8J ; J. Goonan (accepted), £49 15s, It was resolved that the contracts for Waitoa Drain and Netherion Road be held over for one week.
Correspondence : Flax on Chain Re serves : The Clerk stated that a letter had been sent to Mr H. H. Adams, informing him that his tender for the right to cut flax was accepted ; but no reply had been received. It was resolved that a telegram be sent to Mr Adams, asking him what he intended to do in the matter.
Normanby Road : From P. Sheeliy, stating he would like to bo informed of the reason why his tender for cutting down the Normanby Hill was rejected, his being the lowest.—Letter received.
Cemetery : A letter was read from Sir Boden, tendering his resignation as caretaker of the Paeroa cemetery. On the motion of Cr Nicholls, it was resolved that Mr Boden’s lesignation he accepted. Waibi Bridge : From Government, stating that they were willing to grant L 250, providing Council would find the balance of the money to complete the work.
Resolved, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Robson, that the offer of the Government be accepted, and the contractors be instructed to proceed with the work at once. Rnnginora Punt: A letter was read from the Netherlon settlers, stating that they had fixed a scale of charges, and had appointed Mr McKee as ferryman. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Quinn, seconded by Cr Strange, that a letter be sent to the Netherton settlers, informing them that the Council approved of Mr McKee’s appointment on the condition that he be responsible for any damage done to the punt. Defining County Boundary : From Mr F. Pavitt,stating that he would be willing to define the County boundary for the sum of LsU.—Latter received. Cr Quinn proposed that Mr N. Kenny be asked to do the work at his earliest convenience. Mr Kenny being present, stated that lie was willing to undertake the duty, and on Cr Quinn's motion being put to the meeting it was carried unanimously. From T. Quinn, stating that as he was delayed in his contract (No. 268) by Council, he would now surrender the contract.—Letter received.
From E. Edwards, accepting his ap pointment as caretaker of the Paeroa wharf.
From A. Cassrels, asking Council to fill in a bad hole in the road just opposite his place. Road Repairs, etc. : After considerable discussion on the subject of Mr C»ssel’s letter, it was resolved on the motion of Cr Dearie, seconded by Cr Quinn, That the square opposite Cassrel s Hotel be metalled, at a cost not to exceed LlO, Cr Robson stated there was a very bad place in the road in front of Mr J. Thorp’s house, and moved that the sura of L 3 be spent in repairing it.— Carried, Waihi Road: Cr Quinn said he thought a little money 'should be expended on the Waihi road, as it was in a very bad condition. Resolved on the motion of Cr Nicholls, that the sum of LlO be spent on repairing, and on clearing water tables, etc,, on the Waihi road, and that the Foreman of Works be instructed to get the work under way as soon as possible.
Bowler’s Road Drain : On the motion of Cr Quinn, seconded by Cr Dearie, it was resolved that the sum of L2 10s be ex)ended on deepening drainon Bowler’s
road, providing the Council get authority to do so.
Thames River Board Meeting: It was unanimously resolved that » hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Cr Dearie for representing the Council at the Thames River Board meeting. Advertising : Cr Dearie remarked that the term of the contract for advertising had now nearly expired, and he would propose that tenders for another period be at once invited. Cr Quinn proposed as an amendment that the contract of Mr C. F. Mitchell (the present contractor) be renewed, at the same price for another twelve months: c econded by Cr Nash and carried. Notice of Motion : Cr Nash said he would now give notice that he would move at next meeting, That as long; as the Council were in such low circumstances as at present, no Councillor be allowed travelling expenses. Financial Report: The Finance Committee reported : 1. That the overdraft at the Bank of N.Z. amounted to £540 18a Bd, and that all cheques had been presented. 2. The immediate liabilities of the Council for accounts passed but not paid are : Hospital Board. 1889 90 £sl 15 4 Charitable Aid do., „ ~ £sl 15 4 E. Ryan £lO 7 0 Total £ll3 17 8 3. The Council has on hand prospective liabilities, apart from those mentioned above, amounting to L 960 6s lOd. 4. The Committee recommend for payment accounts amounting to Ll6l Bs. This concluded the business of the ordinary meeting. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was held immediately after the ordinary meeting, to consider the re-adjustment of the representation of the several ridings. After a lengthened discussion it was resolved that another member should be givon to Waitoa, by dividing that riding into two, with one member for each division.
