Waikato District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Waikato Times Buildings, Hamilton, at noon yesterday. There were present: Messrs Primrose (chairman), Chepmell, Clements, Lang, Teasdale, MaePherson ami Pnvey. The minutes of the last monthly meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence adopted. Hospital Endowments : Ip reply to a letter from the Board, the Secretary to the Crown Lands Department wrote stating that Lot 69, Hamilton West, was required for the Poljce Department whose building had been on jt for some time.
The Board’s Secretary was instructed to prepare a statement respecting Lot 9, to be forwarded to the Hon. Jo.hn Bryce ami Mr J. B, Whyte, requiting: them to get justice for the Board. AYafer Supply for the lipspUgl : With reference to the water supply, Messrs Steryapt ppd Hunter wrote recommending that the best way to apply power to supply wpter to the Hospital would be by one of Bailey's.'hot. a|r ipgipes, of
one half horse power, which at the factory in Manchester, would cost £42. Considerable discussion was elicited on this question, but ultimately it was decided to get four additional tanks at the hospital, so fixed as to utilise either water from the roof or pump. Allocation of Contributions to be made by Locol Bodies : Two formal resolutions rolating to this subject were moved by Mr Chepniell, and seconded respectively by Captain McPherson and Mr Lang and carried. They were in substance as follows Ist. That for the purpose of apportioning the piopor tion of the contribution to be made by each local authority within the Waikato Hospital District on an uniform or equivalent scale, the ratable value of the ratable property in tho' district represented by each and every local authority within the said Hospital district, whose valuation roll has been made in accordance with the provisions of the Rating \ct, 1882, shall he th© annual value as provided by the Bating Act, 1882, section 14 : that is to say it shall be the sum, which is equal to six pounds per centum on the ratable value of such local authority. 2nd. That the amount of expenditure for the maintenance of institutions and for the.. distribution of chaiitablo aid for the Waikato Hospital District having been ascertained, the Board declares the amount of the contributions to be made by the several local authorities within the Hospital district to be as follows, viz. Piako, L 333 14s 3d ; Waikato, L2Bl 19s 4<i ; Waipa, L 223 17s Id ; Raglan, L 76 4s lOd ; Hamilton, LSO lGs 8d ; Cambridge, L 39 3s Gd ; and appoint the 14th day day of April as the date on which the sai l amounts shall be payable to tho Secretary at the office of the Board, Hamilton.
Reduction of Quorum : In accordance witli notice given, Mr Chepmell moved that the resolution of 4th December, 1889, fixing the number of members necessary to form a quorum of the Board, be rescinded, and that in future five members shall be sufficient to form a quorum.—Seconded by Mr Sandes, and carried. Household supplies and rations for the destitute : Tenders for these were received and dealt with. Belief, etc. : Rev Mr Evans, of Te Aroha, applied on behalf of John Dare, who from old age and rheumatism was unable to support himself, for his admission into the Old People’s IMuge, or granting some relief at Te Aroha. Sergeant Emerson, of Te A roha, reported that Dare wa* unable to.support himself, and that ho was a fit subject for admission to the Refuge, It was resolved to admit Dare to the Refuge. Mr G. P. Tierce, Secretary to the St.
, .teplien’s 'Orphan Home, Parnell, wrote, offering to admit Mrs Allen’s children into the home if the Board would allow them the amount of the rations being granted to the children. A long discussion on ibis.case was held in committee, and on the motion-of Air Sandes, seconded by Mr Davey. it was resolved that the resolution of the Board passed at its last meeting be adhered to.
Mrs J. Slater, of Hamilton, applied for relief to the extent of her rent, 3s per week. Letter received. An application was received from Mrs T. C. Hammond, whose husband is at present in the hospital. Tho Secretary to the Auckland Hospital wrote stating that they would not be responsible for any expenses incurred on behalf of R. Sefton in the Waikato Hospital as the Auckland Hospital was open for his admission. The usual relief was granted for the ensuing month with the addition of Airs Hammond, and the exception of W. Murliss, regarding whom it was resolved that as he was the owner of freehold property his relief of 3s per week be discontinued.
