MINING LABOUR AT BROKEN HILL.

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE BARRIER BIINER) Sir, —I noticed in your last issue p letter, commenting on the increasing flow of labor in Broken Hill. The influx of labor into this part lias for the last two or three months been astonishing, and I agree with “Miner” that something ought to be done to try and stop the men from rushing into this part, which is overstocked already. It is rumoured that n lot of Nsw Zealand men are engaged for one or two of the mines here in Broken Hill, and I think if it is true they ought to be warned not to come. I should think that now unions are formed all over Australasia, it should be one of the main objects of the A.M.A. to try and lule the labour market to a certain extent, and I think if union men in other parts are told through the A.M.A. how the labor market is over stocked in Broken Hill at the present time, they would not come under an eugngement. I also noticed in your paper that the directors state, in the circular they have issued, that one of the difficulties Block 14 has met with during the present month is scarcity of labor. I think it is a shame that such a report as that should go over Australasia when there are so many men going to that same mine who are refused work. It seems to me that there is a little bit of underhand work going on with two or three in our midst since the strike, and I advise Ihp A.M.A. to be wide awake, or tfley ipay be caught napping, and when they go. pp the street to ask questions don’t fake every thing they hear for gospel because they will find some cpieer beings strolling about. Trusting you wilUforgiye for trea-;

passing on your valuable space, I “will conclude by hoping" tiic working .men of Broken Hill will be up and doing ere it be too late, I am, etc., S'JKAIGUT WIKE. “Broken Hill, March 9, [ Bite above extract from a recent issue of the “ Barrier Miner,” we have received from a miner who some time ago left Te Aroha for Broken. Hill, where he is now employed.—Ed. Te A. & O. N.]
