HAWKE’S BAY CUP.
Hilda recorded the best performance she has to credit in the Hawke’s Bay Cup on Monday. The time recorded was fast, but it was beaten in 1888 and 1889 by both Crutchfield and Recluse, the first-named running the distance in 3.6. Hilda was looked on as a great certainty for the Burke-Memorial Stakes on Tuesday, bub from accounts of the race to hand it appears she was kept too far out of it, with the result that Rurd Helen, who acted as runner-up to Hilda in the Cup, gob home.
