Waiorongomai Accident Relief Fund.
fFrom our own Correspondent.]
A spkcial meeting in connection with the above was held in the Public Hall, Wuiorongomai, on Saturday evening 15tli inst., about 16 members being present, including, the Committee. Mr J. Samson occupied the chair, and explained that the meeting was held at tha instance of Mr il. Goldsworthy, and he would call upon him to explain his object. Mr Goldsworthy said ho had called the meeting for the purpose of taking the vote of the members in respect to certain claims made by himself for relief, and he would ask the Chairman to lay his case before the members which was accordingly done. Briefly stated, Mr Goldsworthy’s case. was that ho had strained his hack sometime ago while lifting a heavy piece of timber, and that the injury brought on rheumatism and sciatica, and he had eventually to cease working. He put in a claim for benefit from the fund and a payment was made to him, but on bis making application a second time the Committee refused it until authorised by a full meeting of members or on the certificate of a doctor.
JDuring the meeting the Committee invited discussion, but those present did not seem inclined one way or the other. As the Committee htd determined not to accept the responsibility of paying the second demand made by Mr Goldsworthy the settlement of the question was left to the meeting ; and on tire motion of Mr Cahill, seconded by Mr Edwards, it was resolved that Mr Goldsworthy’s second demand be paid on his obtaining a doctor’s certificate.
An application from Mr E. Cookson for relief was not entertained. Messrs Cahill and Jamieson were elected members of Committee vice Messrs Taylor and T, Goldsworthy, resigned. This concluded the business.
