Warden's Court TE AROHA.
TUESDAY, MARCH 4th. (Beforell, W.NortheroftEsq., Warden) > Application for Protection : Thos': Quoi, for protection for the Montezuma Special Claim, To Aroha, to work for three months with two men. Mr W. Mcldrum, solicitor for applii cant, said the application came on for ; hearing a month a-o, but was then adjourned, to admit of fresh notices of the application being posted on the ground. This had been done, and no objections had been lodged. The claim was taken up in July, 1888, since when some £4OO had been expended on it. In October last application for protection to work with two men for tltiee months was granted. The two mm were put on and kept on, but had apparently spent l.ieir time in idling about the ground, as only a fortnight’s real work appeared to have been done. No doubt the proprietors of the claim were greatly to blame for this, but as they lived in Auckland it was difficult for them to look after those put on to work the ground. They now asked protection to work with two men for a further period of three months, in order that a proper crushing might be taken out. If this proved satisfactory steps would then be taken to man the ground and develope this property ; but if it was found that the stuff was too poor to pay, they would at the end of the three months abandon the claim. The Warden : I have been over this ground since the application was last before the Court ; and asked the two men who have been employed on the ground to show him what work they had done. Any work they could show the that they had done, any two niiners in my opinion could have accomplished in a fortnight. I have no reason to doubt the proprietors have expended the money they state on the ground, or at least paid it away to have the work done, but there is very little to show for it on theground ; and money simply frittered away that fashion does more harm than good with respect to any claim, when there is practically nothing to show for it. It would be far better for the proprietors to have specifications prepared and let the work by contract; they would then know what they got for their money. Application granted. Waiorongomai Licensed Holding : Application for protection by W. Adams on behalf of Te Aroha S. and G. Mining Com; any, for four month’s protection for Waiorongomai Licensed Holding. Granted. Applications for Forfeiture.: The Warden stated that all the applications for forfeiture, lodged by the Mining Inspector, would stand further adjourned" for one month ; in consequence of the Mining Inspector paving received instructions from Wellington, just was leaving Thames to attend the Court, tp proceed at once to Auckland. He believed he had to visit some coal mines and a'so Ruhipuhi before he returned to Thames. Th ? Ypas al| the i
