WAITOA ROAD BOARD
TftE ordinary monthly meetmg of the Waitoa Road Board took place in the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, on Saturday the 22nd February, ult. Present : Messrs W. P. Chepmel! (in tiie chair), E. VT. Hanmer, H. Burnett, J. Horrell, and J. Turnbull. Among the correspondence was a copy of memo, sent to the Chairman of the Ohinemtiri County Council re the proposal to open up a road to the Native settlement on the Pinko river, in which the Board said it would be glad to cooperate with the Council so that each body may lay Out the road to the best advantage thfoughits own district, and so that the two sections of the road should meet at the boundary between the two districts. A reply was received frotn the County Clerk, repoiting that the Council is awaiting the approval of the SurveyorGeneral to the allocation of Native rates. When that has been received a further communication will bo sent. The Board is anxious to proceed with the work as soon as possible. The Engineer reported that Mr O. McCabe had finished bis contracts on the Stanley road and done them well. 1 he Engineer reported that he had, with the Manager of the Thornton Estate at Maungakawa, inspected the part of the toad which lies within the Waitoa Road District, to ascertain what is required to make it fit for heavy traffic’ He estimated the cost of the work at £OO, of which Mrs Thornton is to pay half and the Boar.! the other half. Accounts amounting to £l9 19s 111 were passed for payment.
