RAILWAY SERVANTS AND THE INSURANCE BILL.
Wellington, February 1. About one hundred members of the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants of New Zealand met on Wednesday night to discuss the provisions of the Government Railway Employees’ Insurance Bill. Mr Fisher, M.H.R., was in the chair. Several of the speakers took exception to the form of the ballot paper recently issued with a view to making it optional vvith employees whether or not the Bill should become law, A resolution was passed condemning the Bill on the ground that it was not in accord with the wishes and interests of the railway employees. It was also decided to ask the Commissioners to withdraw the Bill, and an influential deputation was appointed to wait on the Commissioners to urge them to remodel the voting paper.
