SAMOAN TREATY.
NEWSPAPER COMMENT. London, January 24. A majority of the English and American newspapers are favourable to an equal voice by the Powers in relation to Samoa. The “ London Standard ” doubts whether the nativeswill insist on their treaty right to elect their king. In the course of an article on the Samoan Treaty, the “ Times ” says : “ Its adoption will secure to England only a fair field ana no favour in Samoa.” New York, January 23. The American press complains that the views of Germany dominate the Samoan Convention Treaty, and that Malietoa is only to be a figurehead at Samoa.
