The annual meeting of subscribers to Te Arolia District Library, will bo held in the Reading Room on next Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. A meeting of Gordon Special Settlers will be held at the Settlement this evening at 7 o’clock. On Wednesday 29Gi inst the Wuiorongoinai Post and Telegraph office will be closed. Mining Co., in connection with the erection of a second battery. The ordinmy monthly meeting of Waitoa Road Board will be held at Mor rinsville to day. Miss Patterson, of the Kauaeranga Girls’ School, has been appointed to the Paeroa School, vice Miss Akers, resigned. Intending contractors arc reminded that tenders for the building of two bridges, earth work, etc., for Matamata Road Board, will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday next, 30th inst. See advt.

A supplementary mail for the United Kingdom, etc. (via San Francisco), will he made up at the Post Office, Te Aroha, this (Saturday) morning. Correspondence may be posted till 10.45 am. The Post Office will be closed on Wednesday' next, 29th instant. Mails usually made up on Wednesday will dose at 8 p.m. on Tuesday 28th. As will be seen by advertisement in another column, an election to fill an extraordinary vacancy in Te Aroha Town Board, occasioned by the re agnation of Mr Geo. The Wesleyan Conference opened at Chiistchurch on Tuesday la-t By the flist reading of stations Rev J. Thomas was set down for Upper Thames ; Rev S Lawry for Whangarei. The Rev J. J. Lewis was elected pre-Gdent. The statistics for the year gave 74 *5 members, 198 churches, 9275 Sabbath scholars, 49,321 attendants, 1378 communicants, 676 junior members. The thoroughbred yearlings purchased at the recent annual sale at Sylvia Park, by Messrs W. R. and S. R. Wilson (of Broken III1I) together with the three thoroughbred lioises, Coral, Kneecap, and Clive since purchased by the same gentlemen, were shipped to Sydney from Auckland by thes.s. Te A nan, on Tuesday last. The Wesleyan and Presbyterian services to be held in this district to-morrow wil‘ he found duly advertised. In connection with the Presbyterian services, Rev T. A. Norris announces that at each of his three services to-morrow he will take as the subject of his sermon “ Sabbath Observance.” Sankey’s hymns will be used on each occasion. The subject is an intert sting and most important one, and we have no doubt very many will take this opportunity of hearing Rev Mr Norrie express his views with respect thereto.

Mr C. Hudson, District Traffic Manager, for Auckland section of New Zealand Railways, arrived at Te Aroliu by Tuesday’s train, on business in connection with his department, and left again the following day. The Railway Commissioners are making a number of changes in connection with the officials; amongst them being the transfer of Mr Iludsonto Invert cargill, and of Mr Grunt fnow stationed at Dunedin) to Auckland to, replace Mr Hudson,

Anniversary services in connection- with the Wesleyan Church, will he held at Te Aroha, to-morrow as follows : 11 a.m.. Kev S. Lawry; 239 p.m,, and 730 p.m., Mr W. S. Allan (of Annandale, New Zealand, and Woodhead Hall, England). We hope all these services will be largely attended. Mr Allen, recently nr-ived from England, for many yea:s has taken a most active part in connection with Church work at Home, and is a very earnest and talented speaker.

For tho benefit of those desiring to visit j Auckland durin 6 the Jubilee celebrations, railway excursion tickets to Auckland will be issued from 27th January to February Ist (both inclusive), available for return up to and including February 4th, at the following low fares :—From Te Aroha, 22s first class, 15s second class ; from Morrinsville, 21s and 14s respectively. As will be seen by advertisement, Mi W. Meldrum, barrister and solicitor, has come to reside at Te Aroha, ami commenced practice in his profession. Mr Meldrum lias leased for office purposes, those conveniently situated premises in Rolleßton-street (last house on way to the post office).- formerly used as the Te Aroha Public Library and Reading Room. Mr Meldrum, wid also regularly attend the Pa roa Courts, and we have no doubt will receive a fair share of any law work going to be transacted in the district, A meeting of all those interested in the foi mation of a Cricket Club, at Te Arolia, will beheld this eveningat the Palace Hotel, at eight o’clock. The meeting has been convened by Mr J. Calderwood, who has taken a most active part in trying to form a Cricket Club here, and been promised a good deal of support. We hope the meetr ing now convened to put matters on a working basis, will be a large and representative one. We have more than once during the present season urged the desirability that a Cricket Club should be formed at Te Aroha, and, although the rummer is now somewhat advanced, we hope to soon see a flourishing Club in our midst. In past years Te Aroha had a really good team, and in the many friendly contests that were arranged with teams from adjacent districts, always rendered a good account of themselves. The game is one that deserves to be well supported in our midst.

On last Wednesday the children’s treat in connection with Karangahake school took place at Mackaytown in Mr Nash’s paddock, and all present thereat spent, a most enjoyable day. The proprietors of the Auckland “Observer,” were committed for trial at the Police Court, Auckland, on Wednesday last, by Or Giles, R.M., for alleged criminal libel on Thomas Mace Humphreys, solicitor, formerly a member of Ohinemuri County Council, for Karangahake Hiding.
