ENGLISH RACING STATISTICS.
The English statistics of the year have seen the light. In the list of winning owners, the Duke of Portland, thanks mainly to Donovan, Ayrshire, and Semolina, is at the head of affairs with a total of £73,858 10s, on altogether unprecedented winning record for a single owner in one year. Mr Milner comes next with £21,545 6s, and the Chevalier Ginisirelli, by the aid of his flying wonder Signorina, is third with £11.867 11s. Mr J. Saville’s four races with Ringmaster were worth £1,149 15s. The first honours as a winning stallion rest with Galopin, whose sons St. Simon and Galliard have also prominent places in the list, the former with £24,280 and the latter with £6,129. To Galopin’s large total of £43,516, Donovan has contributed £38,666, and Hampton, who is second with £35,091, has to thank Ayrshire for £20,660. Hermit, who held the pride of place for so many years, is again in the front rank, principally by the aid of Heaume, Heresy, Seclusion, and Whistle Jacket, and his progeny have won altogether thirty-two races, of the value of £12,206. His son Peter has been represented by nineteen winning horses, who between them have secured thirty-seven races, worth £9,390, while Barcaldine’s twenty-two winners have taken thirty-five races, amounting to £9,237.
