Mr Lipsey : Where is this paper piinted Mr Mills ? , Mr Mills': Printed in Cnmbridge. •Mr Lipsey ?. (then I don't think it is right that we should advertise in a paper not printed atTe or in Piako County at all, seeing that there is a local paper punted at Te Aroha. Mr Heatluotp : Is it legal to strike a rato without advertising it? The Clerk : I think so. I can see noth'iig about it in the Act. Mr Lipsey : We have altogether avoided the expense of advertising for some time past, and if we are going to stiike a rate now let it done in the same way — by posting up notices — if a rate can' be legally levied without advertising it, rattier than send the money out of the place. Mr Mills' motion, aft'T some fnither discussion on the matter, was put and CHiried ; Messrs MilU, Gallagher, and Heathcote, voting foi it, and Mr Lipsey against. Mr Lipsey : The Boaj'd gave Tip advertising altogether in the local paper, stating as a reason it was unnecessary to . advc tisc, and that th- i y would therefoie save the expense to (he ratepayeis ; and now, for no good reason that I am aware of, they p opose to advertise in a paper printed at Cambridge, and fhu* send the money out of the place. If that is the line on which iheljoaid intends to carry on the business I will certainly be no party to it, find shall with raw.
