SPORTING NEWS. Auckland, Nov. 30.

The Spring Meeting of the Takapuna Racing Club is being held this afternoon as we go to press. The programme is a long and varied one of eight events, and the excellent weather this afternoon has had the effect of attracting a considerable number ef people to the pretty little course over the water. The arrangements made by the Ferry Company for the conveyance of passengers are of the best. Mr J. Impey'B fine band has been engaged for the afternoon and is discoursing sweet music to the patrons of the Club. Handicapper : Mr W. Percival. Treasurer : Mr E. W. Alison. Secretary : R. Wynyard.

Badger led to the back of the course the second time round, when Dolosa went to the front, and despite the efforts of the whip on Eruption and Memorandum, won easily. Time, 2min 21sec. Thompson's b m Capella, 7st (Priest) 3 Tamora (Bst 21b) and Torment (7sb 41b) also ran. Leorina, Eruption, Cartridge, and Nosegay were scratched. Patchwork was made favourite. A Aery good start was made, and Patchwork cut oub the running, bub soon gave way to Capella, though keeping in a good position. At the back of the course in the last round Patchwork again took the lead, and though challenged in the straight by Loch Ness won easily by 2 lengths. Time, 2min 47sec. Dividend, £2 6s. Handicap Steeplechase, of 80sovs ; second horse to receive lOsovs out of stakes. About three miles. Mr J. McHugh's blk q Messenger, 10sb (Tutt) ~ .. . . i Mr H. Kairuna (9st 71b) and Hune (9sb 71b) were scratched. Messenger starbed a very warm favourite. From the start Messenger led firsb time round the ordinary courbe, but on leaving it for the hill Hurricane went up and led to bhe water jump. Messenger took his jump in splendid style, and again went to the front with Hurricane, Seaweed, and King Quail close up. Hurricane challenged him, and went to the front up the hill, but only on sufferance, for Messenger again went to the front and won as he liked, with Seaweed second and Neck or Nothing (some distance off) third.
