TRADITION AND THE BALL AR AT HORSES.
( ' Asmodeus," in the Melbourne * ' Leader, ' is responsible for the following: — "Tradition was walking about the saddling paddock at Caulfield on Saturday, and his identity being easily recognised, the big son of Richmond of course became the object of interested observation. With his clothing on it was impossible to get a fair look over him ; but he gave evident signs of being in great heart, as he let fly with his heels continually. On one occasion he struck a tree guard and scraped a bit of skin off his fetltfck, but was not injured. I hear from Ballarat that Oakleigh and Bravo are doing remarkably well ; indeed, my correspondent is evidently more impressed with the two named than with the Melbourne Cup favourite Silverton."
