Waitoa. [From our own Correspondent.]

School Committee : The ordinary meeting of the .School Committee was held on Monday evening last, all members present. The repairs to tho Public Hall were reported as finished, and the account passed lor payment. The Chairman stated that owing td a considerable increase in the number of scholars, ho had made application to the Board of Education for further school furniture, which request had been complied with. The number of. children now on the roll is thirty-six. Flax Mill : Arrangements, I believe, "ire now nearly completed for the erection of a flax mill, by Messrs W. T. Firth and Co., somewhere near the junction of the Piranui with the Wniloa river. The flax from this district has hitherto been carted to Mr Adam's flax mill, Waiorongomai, but the distance being so far, and expense of carting so heavy, allowed but little margin for profit to the contractor who agreed to deliver it. The establishment of a mill so near hand will mnke it better for those who have flax for sale in, this neighbourhood. General : The weather has been Tery wet of late, and garden operations are at a standstill ; low lying lands are flooded, and lambing ewes are baying a trying time of it owing to so much rain. Accident : Mr Heath, local manager at the A. A. Co's Waitoa Station, met with a very nasty accident yesterday ; a very severe kick from a horse almost destroying the identity of his face.
