WAIORONGOMAI. [From ooru r own Correspondent.]
WAinnojsctoMAi, Tuesday. On Friday last twelve of the hands employed by the To Aroha S. and G. M. Co., nt tlio New Find mine, were discharged, and on Saturday a further reduction was made. Where there were about fifty to sixty men employed in the mines, I undeivlaud there are now only sixteen. During the whole of my little experience here for the past seven years, X never remember such a surprise, as the dismissal of the men on Friday and Saturday lust, occasioned, as it was quite unexr. ected. The number of hands employed at the battery hnvo also been reduced; two shifts l>ein,q: dispensed with; and the Battery is now working one shift of ton hours, The 'matting. furnace is still working, but the lot of stuff now on hand will be finished in a day or two, jird then smelting will commence.
