MEETING AT, DUNEDIN. Dunedin, July 28.

The Rablray-sbreeb Hall was crowded last night at the meeting to discuss the Representation Bill. The .Mayor, who presided, explained that thatJiall was tho only one obtainable. Sir- Robert Stout moved, '^Thab this meeting protest against the passing of the Representation Bill, now before the House ot Representatives, as its provisions are unjubt, and opposed to tho best interests Of the colony." Ho condemned the Bill on the ground that it strikes at tho root of every democratic principle. Democracy demanded that one man .should count for ono man and no more, and any Go\ernmont that attempted to clothe certain people with special privileges struck at the loot of good government, and was sowing, ho believed, the seeds of anarchy and rebellion. He explained his action with regard to the quota in 1887, and said that it tho town people had stood by him then there would have been r\a need to stonewall tiiis Bill, nor any need' ot public meetings to protest against it. Ho claimed that the Bill had no principle undei lying it, and paid the Premier and his party had meiely ] Wicked tho card to see how the majority went, and detei mined to go with it. JNlr Sligo seconded the resolution, which was canicd unanimously. • Mr Lee Smith moved, and Mr Marks Sinclair seconded, " That this meeting tenders its irratoiul thanks to those membeis of the Houso of Representatives who have opposed, and arc still opposing, the Representation Bill, and mges them to use all constitutional means to defeat &uch an obnoxious measure." This wai cairied all but unanimously, one hand being held up against. Mr Mark Cohen submitted another resolution, which was seconded by Mr R. Campbell, and carried unanimously, to the cirect thitc the meeting thoroughly appro\es of tho proposal .to amalgamate tho city constituencies. It was deckled to forward copies of the resolutions to tho Premier* and city members. ' ' -'
