Tjii; crushing of five tons of quarts from the Try Fluke claim, at Kuaotunu, belonging to Cofnn and p.irby, wasiinished at the Ivloanataiaii battery yestetday afternoon, lor the pood return of 3oozl3d\vtietoi tcdgold. The blanketings have yet to be treated, so that the return will bo fnither augmented by the gold obtained theiefiom. The gold lms not yet been melted, so that it& value is not at present ascertninablc.
Thames, July 22. A trial spin of Mr Robert. Comer's twenty - stampei battery, the election of which haft just been completed on his section of the Kuranui Hill ground, took place at 11.30 o'clock yesterday in the presence of a number of gentlemen interested in mining. The motive power i« supplied by water through a two-inch nozzle, the plant 'being cliiven by one of Price Bros.' Pelton Avheels. The stampers are driven diiect from the main shaft of the wheel, to which is attached a foot-belb, which is connected with a cam-shaft wheel seven feet in diameter. The whole plant worked most smoothly and satisfactorily, and Mr Corner now possefcbes one of the most compact batteries on the field. The erection of the five berdans in connection with the plant is now being proceeded with, and \\ ill be completed about the end of the present week. Saxon.— The additional ten head of stampers at this Company's batteiy have been started.
Thames, July 23. Adelaide. — Late yesterday afternoon the proprietors ot this claim banked returns of "A6doz ictorterl gold irom 29 loads of quartz crushed at BullY, Battsry. The quartz was broken out fiom the mi no during the past three weeks, and theyieldisoneof the best that has ever been obtained, as ie will give each of the four proprietors a dividend of about £190. It is expected chat a further 15oz ot sold will be obtained from the blankiting. This yield is even "better than the laet, when 52 loads of quartz produced 2680z of gold. Mr George Wilson, Mining Inspector, has received a telegram from Mr Gordon, in&pecfcingcngineer of the MiningDepartmenb, asking him to telegraph the width of the principal phatts at the Thames, viz., distance between the guides and width of shaft that cage would*, work in. This is being done with a view to the intioduction of salety cages.
