DEAL OF TEMPESTUOUS WEATHER.

and externally theic were also traces of the rough usage fehe had had. Two ot the boata were missing. One of these, it tran^piied, was that found on the New Zealand coast. It was swept overboard by a huge sea in a gale on June 7th, the vessel at the time being off Cape Maria Van Diemen and dangerously close to a lee shore. The other boat was los'c overboard on the 25th, otl the Australian coast. Besides the loss of the boats the ship had one of her engine-ioom yentilators washed away, and the engine-room flooded. Portion of her bulwaiks was also lost, and the ship was strained severely, the decks and topsidea •leaking and rendering things anything but pleasant for the ship's company. To uiako matters worse, the rigging throughout the bad weather w orked loose, and it was only by using great precaution that the mastd weie saved irom going by the board. Then many ot the sails were lost, and to add to the difliculty some of the gear on board was found to be "polished." Some idea-of the severity of the weather experienced by the Dart may be infened from the fact that she only covered thirteen miles in seven days, being on June 2lst 268 miles from Port Jackson, and on the 28th 255- miles otl'. The ship was altogether 21 day. 1 ? out of sight ot land, and when she had run out of the bad weather, Captain Fredericks tound himself in the vicinity of the Solitary Islands, having taken the ship considerably off her course in endeavouring to escape the violence of the storm.
