BOOT OPERATIVES' STRIKE. TROUBLE WITH TOOMER BROTHERS. Christchurch, June 11.
A la roe mooting of bootmakers' oporatives dociu ed. that in consequenco of Toomer Brothei-s rofnsiug to employ members of the Union any lonsjer, the men locked out should go out on strike, at federation pay, and thab Toomer Bros, bo notified that their action having brought this about, they bo compelled to pay all expenses of the strike. Tho meeting was very unanimous in condemning the action of Toomer Bros, in baking the opportunity afforded by Lightb'and, Allen,, and Co. closing thoir works. The bootmakers' strike has not exactly commenced yet, as parleying; is going 1 on botween Toomer Bros, and the men. Tho latter seem inclined to waver a little, though they declare they are determined to resist. , , ' • An employers' deputation waited upon t-he Industrial PijotectionLoague, and stated the ca&e was, one for compromise They ex propped sympathy with the men, and regretted, the, attitude assumed by Messrs To o'nlor.
