DROWNING AT KAWAKAWA. Kawakawa, June 11.
A jiak named Garoy, in charge of Black's store (la to Kemps), at Kerikeri, arrived on Sunday, and s>tayed at Middlefon's Hotel, lie went to bed apparently in a melancholy state about 9 p.m. Next morning Gnrev wab missing-, and us ho had to to Tomai gumh'elds s-tore, messengers were sent in nil directions. A settler named Squires, living on the other side ot the Waiomio Kiver, stated yesterday afternoon that he had heard a noise about 3 o'clock on Sunday morning, and he yot up and discovered the man Garey wanting to get across : the river, a3 three men weie after him. Squires told Garey he would have to lemain where ho was till morning, and retired to his house. The police decided to drag the river this morninir, and after an hour's search Constable Carr found the body. Garey was much respected and well known
