AN IMPORTANT POINT. VALUES OF PLACES BURNT. Waipawa, May 23.
The inquiry held yesterday into the tire which destroyed the Waipawa Hotel is remarkable for the rider added by the jury to the verdict, as follows : — "There is no evidence before the jury how the iire originated. The jury are of opinion that the proper time to i-aise the question of value was when the proposal for insurance was made, but that when the Company accepts a proposal and takes premium it should in all fairnes3 when a tire occurs pay up, and nob raise a question of over insurance." The jury was composed of some leading: business men. They resented beinjr forced to feit all day, and not to find out how the fire originated, but discover the value of the premises burnt. The Company's interested was the North British and Mercantile.
