Assessment Court. M ATA M ATA AND WAITOA RIDINGS.

Messrs S.T. Seddon (Chairman), R. N. IJuttle, and J. Runciman, Board of Reviewers, appointed to hear objections lodged against valuations made under the Propei ty Assessment Act, with respect to property within the Matamata and Waitoa RHings, Pinko County, sat at the Nottingham Ca&tla H^'l, Morrinsville, on Monday lasF,'at flro.m, Mr John Hunt, valuer, appeared on behalf of the Property Tax Commissioner. The following" valuations, objected to as being excessive, Avere dealt with : Matamata Riding : -J. C. Firth; £500, on Matamata Hot Springs Reserve, 120 acres. Mr Hunt stated the land was certainly very poor, and seeing the hot springs were not being improved, he thought the valuation might be reduced by one half. Valuation reduced to £250. Waitoa Road District : Jamps Bell, valued at £3427 for Nos. 1, 2, 3, Waikuku, 1740 acres. Mr Bell gave evidence as to the value of his lan<!, and sail he thought it wa« valued too hiqrli, M, Hunt hid value! the land at £2 per acre, but thai was more than il whs worth, a-s ln» would b* prepared to take 30s per acre for it. Brothers, valued at £80, for Section 102, Te Aroha Survey District, 43a. lr. 18p. Valuation sustained. James Jackson, Section 11, Block XI, Te Aroha Survey District, 171 a. Ir., valued at £350. Valuation sustained. George Lovegiove, Section 107, Block XI, Te Aroha Survey District, 42a. 3r. Bp,, valued at £50. Valuation sustained. Bank N. Z., for section at Morrinsville, on which the Phoenix Hotel formerly stood 1 . Valued afc LI OOO. Reduced to L5O.
