At length however, Craig succeeded in sending the* bn\\ over the line, and J. ClarKon following it up wdi on it ami secured a t\y. The plnce. kick, entrusted to T. Biggs, was a miserable failure. Play continued to be carried on in dangerous; proximity to the Paeroa line for some time, until at length T. Clarken, \y a very smart run, succeeded in obtaining another touch down. The place kick was this time* entrusted to W. Biggs and wa» a> really good attempt, being- within about six inches of being a goal. Time was then called. During the second spell the visitors were, as in the first spell, obliged to play more or less a defensive game, play on both sides being of a most determined character. During this- spell the Paeroa's kicked what was thought by some »t the time to have been a goal, but, on appeal to the Referee, it was disallowed, much to the chagrin of the visitors. The Captain of the Paeroa's several times saved his god by some splendid kicks ; when the ball had been rushed close to his goal line on one occa~ sion in particular he, by a grand kick sent it back clean over the heads of the field, and there is no doubt had he beerk better supported the match might have had a very different termination. Play was continued until it was almost too> dark to distinguish which side thoseplaying belonged to, but no scoring took place during the second spell, and when time was called the scoring stood asfollows : Aroha, 2 points ; Paeron, nilThroughout the maiehthe play was of fw very determined character on both sidesThe Paeroa's displayed more skill inpassing and kicking thnii the home team,, who appeared to rely too much *>ft attempting to run in with the ball, even when to the onlookers it was quite im~ dossible to get through with it, and they certainly might practice passing anilkicking more with advantage Although? the play at ti nes was rather rouyh theutmost goo* 1 humour pievailel *h rough— out. We trust he will* soon be all light again, and ready for another game. \.t the conclusion of the match the players repaired 1 to> the Waiorongomai Hotel to partake of dinner provided for them by fc'ie home team.
