KARANGAHAKE. [From our own Correspondent.] Karagahake, Friday.
Woodstock : I hear that an English syndicate are in treaty with the owners ot this mine for its purchase, and have already paid a substantial deposit on it. The tributers, who for some months past have been working the ground, have got notice to quit. I did not learn the sum asked for, but I believe it is some where in the neighbourhood [of eight thousand pounds cash, and a large number of paid up shares. Kenilworth : This Company is in the same position as the Woodstock, their mine b ing included in the area about to be floateJ by the English syndicate. Ivanhoe and Truro : The Company's battery has been at a standstill for soino days through the scarcity of water. There is some talk of this mine also changing hands. Mr Turner, a mining expert, has been on the ground for several days making an overhaul of the different reefs for assaying. This gentleman is on the look out for a large area of mining property, which I have no doubt he will be able to secure in this district, Rhoderick Dhu : This is a lease of thirty acres, lately taken up by Messrs Shepherd and party. It is situated between the Crown and Kenilworth mines. 1 hear that good gold has been got, but as I have not visited the mine yet I cannot vouoh for the truth of the report. Imperial : The necessary timbering being completed, a start has been made to drive on No. 2 leader, with a good show of gold in the face, the lead averages about nine inches in thickness, and the country is all that could be desired for carrying gold. Crown G.M. Co.'s Mines : Good headway is being made with the different works in hand in this Company's mine. The blocks between No. I and 2, and No. 2 and 3 are all in readiness, for stopiug. The low level contract is nearing completion, The County tramway (which the Company have leased), is being put in working order, and connected \tith No, 2 level. At the battery the stone crasher, and two of the Lamberton grinding mills are in position. Cassel Gold Extracting Company : Good progress is being made with the erection of the works for this Company. The excavation has been completed, and a start made to set up the frame of the building. The assay rooms are in a forward state, and will be ready for work in about a week's time. Heitman and party have cleaned up a parcel of 18 tons at the old Ivanhoe battery, for a yield of 42ozs, value £1 16s 6d per oz ; and at the Christchurch •Company's battery, -22023, value £1 2s 6d per oz. White and party (Ivanhoe tributers), crushed 37 tons for Hozs of gold. This, although the stuff is easily got, is barely payable .
OWHAROA. Jfariper and party have all their passes and battery full of crushing dirt, but there is not sufficient water to drive the battery. Messrs A> Mackay and J, Thorpe have pegged off the old Morning Light, Nut, and otljor unoccupied claim? Q,n the eastern b^.ink pf the river,
