WAIORONGOMAI. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Waioronoomai, Monday, Old Accident Relief Fund : A meeting of member* of the above fund was held in the Public Hull here on Saturday n ; ght last ; when about 12 persons were present. Mr James Samson, aenr., wa.3 voted to the chair,
The Chairman stated that the majority of those present would remember that some little time ago a meeting of members of the old fund was held, the object of the meeting being to ascertain whether the old Committee would be willing to hand over to the new fund the amount that now stands to the credit of the old one, and with that object in view a deputation was appointed, consisting of Messrs Scott and Cookson, to interview the old Committee and report at a future meeting. The present meeting was now called for the purpose of receiving that report, and he would ask Messrs Cookson and Scott to state what the result of their interview was. Mr Cookson said one full meeting had been held at Mr H, H. Adams house, and the old Committee appeared willing to hand the money over to the new Fund provided the fund was registeted j but theyhadadeoided objection for the money to be divided amongst the members. If the fund wus registered he thought them would be no difficulty in getting tho money. He understood the old Com-* roittee had taken legal advice about the matter, but he was not aware of the nature of it. Mr Thos. Scott also spoke in the same strain. The statement of the deputation nofe being considered sufficiently explanatory by the meeting, it was resolved that the meeting stand adjourned until Thursday - next, and in the meantime the Oomrnittoe be invited by letter to be present on thai night, A vote of thanks to fche ohair brought the proceedings to a close. Wairakau Water-race Extension * On Wednesday last, this portion of the Te Aroha S. and G. M, Co's property being complet d, the water was turned iutathe pipes, but in consequence of the extreme dryness of the ground,, the water did not reach the Company's old race for a couple of days. With the first rains however,, there should now be plenty of water for all purposes. Tramway : The tramway hands Trill boengnged running quartz to-morrow. New Bridge at Murphy's Landing Mr James Lavery, the contractor, is. making capital headway with this. work. I understand about half the cumber of' piles required have been already driven,,, aud other portions o! the wosk are also well advanced. Mr Lavery has a staff of about eight hands employed, ami unless the work is retarded by wet weather, another six weeks should see the contract completed. Football : Our footballers returned; from Katikati on Thursday hist, beaten but not vanquished. I understand the game was a fast one from Btart to finish. They speak in glowing farms of the. treatment they received while ther.e, theCaptain especially coming in forgrtat}, kudos. I trust our fellows will return the compliment at an eaily date..
