WAITOA ROAD BOARD. [From our own Correspondent.]
The ordinary monthly meeting 1 of the* Waitoa Road Boaid was held in th.^ Nottingham Castle Hotel, Momasville,. on Saturday last. Present : Messrs W. P. Chepmell (in the chair) r H.. Burnett,, J, Horreil, and J. Tnrnbull. Perhaps the most important piece of business for the ratepayers to know wasMie resolution postponing the RoadBoard election, nominations for whiclie were to have been received by theßeturn-«-ing Officer that day. As the Valuation Roll,, which should have been supplied to the Board by the* Property Tax Commissioner in March* ult., has not been so supplied, and as theold Valuation Roll was burnt along with, the Phoenix Hotel, Morrinsville, where* the Board had its office, there was no. Valuation Roll or Ratepayers Roll on. which to hold the election at the timerequired by the Road Boards Act, 1882,. consequently the Board resolved to make* application to the Governor to extend the time for holding the election until such time as the Board shall have received the Valuation Roll from the PropertyTax Commissioner* In consequence of this, resolution theReturning Officer was instructed not to, receive nominations of candidates. The following tenders were received: for the road forming between Murphy's. Landing and Kershaw's, Te Aroha West :— O. McOabe, £68 ;E. Voysey* £59 ; Jas, Shine, £58 15s j Laybourne and Partner, £51 5s ; Win. Thomson^ £48 19s ; C. Tliaxter, £42 (accepted) j Accounts amounting to £54 Is 2d were passed for payment^ including £1 | 13s 4d claimed by the Audit Office for 1 auditing the Boards accounts ;• lega\ opinion being to the effect that the Board was liable.
