TE AROIIA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
This ordinary monthly meeting of the above School Committee was held on Monday evening last. Piesent: Rev. S. Lawry (secretary), Messrs I!ott, Menzie, and Heathcote, Mr Ilott was voted to the chair. Minutes of the previous meeting were read ami confirmed. Mr Heathcote, as one of the Visiting Committee for the previous month, reported thatfthe School tanks had been cleaned out and white-washed inside ; also that on further investigation it was found there "was plenty of water in the well at (he head teachers residence, and that the reason the pump had not acted was owing to some alterations necessary to the down I ipe, which defect had been repaiied. The Secretary read a letter from the Board of Education (in reply to one requesting increased capitation money) referring the Committee to the printed scale. The usual repot ts from the head teacher were submitted and appioved. The average daily attendance for the past quarter has boon over 125. During the same period 12 boys* and 22 girls' were admitted to the school, whilst 10 boys' and SJgirls' left, the net gain in numbers being 16, which added to 166 on the roll at the end of the previous quarter, brings the total number now on the roll up to 182, (the number on the roll at the corresponding period last year was 155). Of these 40 are returned as under seven years of age, 63 under 10 years ; 59 under 13 years ; and 20 under 15 years ; none being above that age. The largest attendance on any half day during the quarter was 152.7. The average attendance for the past month was 152.7. So far the. Board of Education have only granted £20 capitation ; but the attendance has so increased of late, that the Committee are -undoubtedly entitled to more like £27 103 per annum now, the sum fixed by the Board's scale being 101 to 200, £20 to £35 per annum. Several small accounts were passed for payment. Rev S. Lawry and Mr Menzie were appointed a Visiting Committee for the current mon'h, and Mr Ilott was appointed to sign all cheques ; the Chairman having left the district. This was all the business.
