OHINEMURI. [From our own Correspondent.] Paeroa, Friday.
During the week the Cassel Gold Extraction Company have received from Auckland about 20,000 feet of timber, destined for the erection of thoir innchine boufte ; aluo about 40 tons machinery, iron, etc. Anothor 25,000 feet of kauri will arrive per next week's Kotuku, and sit»oHitBo tons more machinery and other goods ex Dorrc are expected by the s.une steamer* Mr Cock, contractor for the building of the residenijes,. etc., is making rapid strides towards the completion of iris contract. The Crown mine itself is being well handled by Capt. Coward and his able colleague, Mr G M. McGuiro. Some excellent ore is being grassed, and good work is also being, done by the contractor** for driving, whoare in very fair country. In the Ivanhoe and Trnrtf mines, Ivhioh belong to the Chrißtchurch Syndicate,, and: represented by Mr Percy Cox, good! work; is being done under the control of Mr John McConibie, who has long been identified with this district. The plan'fe owned? by this syndicate, and recently described! in these columns, is working most satisfactorily. Much dissatisfaction is expressed at the continued non-working of the Adeline Amalgamated claim, which comprises a large portion of the bust of theKaivwgahake field. Very little work has been done herefor the past 12 montlm. A good deal of prospecting is befng done in and about the Karangahake district. At "Waitekanri very slow progress is being made with the wovks on Mr Cooper's; Jubilee ground, The site is excavated for the machine house but little else has been done. The Australian mine people are making preliminary arrangements for the erectioa of their battery in Scotia Gully. At Waihi very little is being, done in the Company's ground. I understand that there has been- some very good dirt unearthed in the Niat cfcrrnr by Mr Hancock, tribnter. This claim isnext to the Martha, and has no less than 25 reefs in the ground, on which from lime to time a lot of work has been done. Mr John Ritchie has been appointed to the Mackaytown und Owharoa Schools by the Board of Education* The appointment is a very popular one, as Mr Ritchie is well known and respected here. The p.s. Te Aroha is to take up the running on the river instead of tho Patiki,. The genial Capt. Bettis is still to takecontrol.
