Te Arolia S. and G. M. Co. : The unusual long spell of dry weather lias seriously retarded work in connection with this Company. The supply of water latterly has become so scant as to only suffice to drive 10 head oF stampers, and the concentrators used in connection therewith, In fact the scarcity of water for motive and other purposes, is becoming 1 ' a very serious matter, as, should the same state j}f affairs last much longer, it will' possibly result in a number of men being temporarily dispensed with, as the hoppers, etc., being all full, there is no outlet for quartz, beyond what the afore mentioned ten head of stampers can treat, and operations, up hill cannot satisfactorily be pusheij on." Scarcity of water in this district so great and so long continued is quite remarkable. Meantime a number of mi-'or details in connection with portions of the new plant are being attended to, and the e/ection of the Boss pan plant steadily* proceeded with ; and so soon as the much needed rain comes, and sufficient water power is available, the Company will be in a position to treat quartz on iFlarge scale. Alameda : The shareholders of this claim are'displaying commendable energy in connection with^ihe sinking or" the >haft on t^eir ground. The erection of steam pumping machinery (as reported in our last issue) will, it is to be hoped, so cope with the :nfioiv of water, as to allow of operations being now steadily carried on.
