THAMES. [From our Own Correspondent.]
Thames, Monday. The Thames Library Committee have decided to expend £100 in providing additional accommodation, and otherwise improving the Public Library, and the work will be proceeded with at an early date. The winding up oF the old Paroquet G.M. Co., so ns to permit of its incorporation into the new company recently floated in Melbourne, has been decided upon at » meeting of shareholders held in Anekland. The balance-sheet showed the cash assets to be £938 12a Bd, and the liabilities £105 4s. Exclusive of these assers a sum of £812 is due to the Co on two Bills still unpaid. It was resolved to declare a dividend of 8d per share from the monies in hand, and voluntarily wind up the old company.' It was also agreed that tKe assignment to the new Paroquet Co. should be completed. Mr Chas. Clitlcott, tare manager of the local branch of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, leaves for Melbourne to-morrow. He intends to enter upon a new enterprise, viz., exporting salted fish, especially flounder and mullet, from the Thame?. He was entertained at a dinner on Friday night at the Queen's Hotel. The members of the ' Salvation Army and their friends proceeded on »n excursion to Coromandel this morning in the s.B. Rotomabana. The steamer was crowded. Mr Thos. Vettle, grocer, leaves for Taranaki in a week or two, as he has received a lucrative appointment at that place. Operations are at last to be commenced upon the Thsimes Mining and Prospecting Cn.'s ground, which comprises about eighry-tliree acres, and is situated in the Collarbone district, or between the upper portion of the Waiotalii and Karoka creeks. Mr T. H. Crawford, who lias been acting as supervisor, has received a cablegram from the Melbourne syndicate who own the ground, asking him to report as to tVe best mode of working it, and instructing him to at once commence operations. A start will therefore be made to-day to clean out the old Nana abaft, while'it is probable that in a month or two the sinking of a nuiiu shaft in the AYaioKaraka. from which to carry on work, will be undertaken, as Mr Crawford intends recommending that such should be done. Another new company commenced work to-day — the May Queen G.M. Co. — which as your readers have already been informed, was recently floated in Auckland. The shaft sunk some years ago, and known ns the City of York, is to be cleaned out and re-timbered, and the work has been let to Jas. Wilson and pnrty, at £1 7s per foot. The Saxon G.M. Co.'s mine is still our principal gold producer, and looks well throughout. The crushing has been shaping for n yield fully equal to the previous fortnight, and it is expected that as the' result of the cleaning- np and retorting to-morrow another dividend of 6d per share (50,000), will be declared. The main reef at the low level has now been cqt through., but no gold has yet been observed. Very little quartz, however, has so far been broken down. A dividend of 2s 6d per share has been declared by the Waiotahi G.M. Co. Crushing is now proceeding, and a return fully equal to an ounce per ton may confidently be expected. The erection of the Onslow Gold Saving Co.'s plant, in the Herald battery on the foreshore, is to be proceeded with next week.
