OHINEMURI. [From our own Correspondent.] PAEROA RACES. Paeroa, Tuesday.
The event of the week lias, of coun>e, been the Autumn Race Meeting in Ghinemuri. This took place on Saturday, 16th inst. The morning broke magnificently, and by twelve o'clock huge crowds had come in from Thames, Te Aroha, Waikato, Katikati, and surrounding settlements. Mr Bloomfield, of Auckland, had a totalisator on tiie ground, and krge numbers of "speelers" and chevaliers d'indu&tnß congiegated. The following were the results of the various events :—: — Maiden Plate, lOsovr, w.f.a. For horses that had never won im advertised race of £10 or over, 1± mile. ilr M. Munros b.g. Ossian, aged, Bst KJib (Owner) 1 Mr N. Dickey's b.g. Volunteer, 5 years, Bst 131b (Monayhan) ... 2 Mr J. T. McWilliunis' Ocean Bird, aged, ! Bht 131b (Williams) 3 Playboy, Johnny, Paddy, and Mystery, also ran. This was a splendi 1 race, won on the post by about half a length. Handicap Huidles, 20sovs, over 8 flights, 2 miles, Mr J. T. McWillianV Prospector, aged, 9st (William*,) 1 Mr Waterford's Tuiiua, 6 yenvs, 9bt 71b (Munro) 2 Mr N. Dickey's Volunteer, 5 years, 9st 31b (Dixon) 3 This was practically a trial between the first and second horses, although Volunteer surprised many by his jumping. The race was won by a head. Peters' Gladintor, aged, 7st 21b (Davis) b ... 3 Considerable interest was taken in this nice, although it was almost a dead bird for Riot at the weights. The result however showed it was not such a certainty for the chestnut, as Mr Dickey's horse helped him well past the post with not n great deal of running left in him. Had the horses been at level weights the result might have been different. After this race Mr Tho's k Clarke, who trained Tryfluke, entered a protest on the ground that Riot's performances had not been given. The Stewards heard this and decided against the protest, giving Riot the money. Maori Handicap, of 7sovs. t£ miles, for horses owned and ridden by natives onlyMr Ahuas Barney l Mr Dehair's Navigator 2 Maori Win also ran. Publicans Purse Handicap, of lOsovs, 1£ ! miles : Mr D. McNicol'a Riot, 6st 121b ' (Thomas) 1 j Mr Waterford'b g.m. Seaweed, 6st 101b (Williams) ... 2 ! Mr Dickey's Tryfluke, 7dt 121b (Monaghan) ... ... ... 3 Mystery, Virginia, and Ossian, also ran. Consolation Handicap, of 7sovs/ 1 mile. Mr Moraghan's Virginia 1 Mr Waterford's Seaweed... ... 2 Four others started, On the morning of the race a sweepstake of £2 was rowed for by Messrs JClarke, Thus. Clarke, Coyle, and Cashen, on the Ohinemmi River. The firat heat between John and Thos. Clarke was won by the former, the second between Coyle and Casben, by the latter, and the^.final by John Clarke in very good time. -' A successful Puice Ball was held at the Paeroa Public MbH on Friday evening last abunt foity couples being present.
