MORRINSVILLE. [From our own Correspondent.] Morrinsville, Monday.

1 regret to say the school children's annual picnic, which for several years past has been looked upon as a fixed institution for St. Patrick's day, has this year been allowed to fall through owing: to the untoward action of some of the members of our school committee, to whom, as in former years, the general management had been entrusted. This body met sometime ago and decided to hold the picnic at Annandale on the lGth March, and also made nnangements as to catering, etc. Everything seemed woiking smoothly, money was being freely subscribed, and all j weie looking forward toapleasant day, until i Wednesday last, when it was announced the picnic had been knocked on the head. It appears the committee met on Tuesday, and in the absence of one of the members decided not to have a picnic. Main' conflicting reasons have been given for this t»tep, but they are all more or less unsatisfuetoiy. lufafttlieie is every reason to believe there is nothing more nor less than jealousy at the bottom of it. It isneedlesß to say the unfmtunata affair has caused a good deal of unpleasantness, and the action of the committee- been universally condemned. The committee now talk of having spots, or something of the kind oi» Good Friday, but it is to be hoped if anything is done in this jespect, parents and others will interest themselves in the matter, as it is only too painfully manifest the present sr-bool committee should not be enliusted with such matters.
