THAMES. [From our own Correspondent.] Thames, Wednesday.

The monthly meeting of the Governors of the. Thames High School was held on Monday last. Present : Messrs Carpenter (in the chair). Dean, Brodie, Wood, Doualas, and Rev. S. J. Neill. Mr Carpenter was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Applications were rpceived fr^m James Garria (Te Aroha), W. H. Baker, and J. D. James, for Free tuition at the School hy virtue of their having passed the sixth standard at the primaiy schools. Granted. Treasury vouchers were received from Government for £34: and £61 10s 6d, goldfields revenue for the months of September and November respectively. In the course of conversation Mr l>an said he would propose, " That a Committee of the whole be appointed to consider whether it would not be advisable that applications for admission to the school by sixth standard pupils should be made by a certain dpte, and also that they should be instructed to report on the advisability or otherwise of admitting scholars who had passed the sixth standard in the public schools." This was unanimously agreed to. Mossrs Carpenter and Brodip, and thp "Rev. S. J. Neill were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month, and were authorised to report as to the bpssfc method of improving the manner in which drawing is now taiurhb in the school. Mr A. de Conrcey Potterton tendered his resignation as French Master, nnd the Visiting Committee were instructed I to take such steps as they might deem advisable to temporarily fill the vacancy, Mr Brodie inquired what, had been done regarding the letter received at the last meeting from M»- Thos. McDonald Scott, Adeline Amalgamated, Karangahake, granted ; Adam Porter, Crown, Karangahake, gianted ; It. Mulgur, license to cut timber, adjourned until 31st inst. ; E. K. Cooper, tramway, Moanatairi creek, granted ; Chas. K. Bull, agricultural license, Karaka creek, refened to the Mining Inspector to report ; E. B. Edwards, protect ion for one month for the Queen of May, granted. The plaints lodged by the Mining Inspector for non-woiking were further adjourned until tiie 31st inst.: — J.
