TE AROHA JOCKEY CLUB:

A meeting of the above Club was held in the Club Hotel, on Saturday evening last at 8 o'clock, for the purpose o£ discussing the question of holding a race meeting at an early date. Amongst those present were : Messrs 1 F. Pavitt,^ E. A. Pavitt, A. W. Edwards, A. Downes, J. Don, G. Ebert, J. Craig, jnnr., J. B. Heathcote, J. H. Rowe, N. Cleary, 0- Gordon, R. Brennan, etc. i Mr F, Pavitt was voted to the chair, and briefly stated the object in convening the meeting. It was resolved on the motion of Mr J. H. Rowe, seconded by Mr Heathoote, that a race meeting be held in the month i of March. Considerable discussion took place with respect to the most suitable date and place for holding the meeting. The Chairman stated that Mr Bradley (of Messrs Bradley /and Ferguson — who was unavoidably absent from the meeting) had sont him a note stating that the Paeroa St. Patrick's Day race meeting would probably be held on Saturday, March 16bh. New Course Proposed : The Chairman stated that many complaints had been made in the past respecting the unsuitableness of the course hitherto used, at Ruokaka, on account of its being very rough, in fact some Waikato horse owners had stated their intention of not sending horses to run at To Aroha again unless a better course was provided. Another objection to the old course was that it was unenclosed, and consequently gate money could not be collected from those attending the races. For these and other reasons it was thought desii able to cast round for some other course. Mr John Wood having offered to allow the larije paddock on his far n at Te Aroha West to be used for the races, a survey had been made, and it was found that a really excellent course, over half a mile in langth, could easily be laid off. It would be for the meeting to decide whether they would hold the races in Mr Wood's paddock or not. After the matter had been discussed it was unanimously resolved that the races be held this year in the paddock, kindly placed at the disposal of the Club, by Mr Wood. Resolved that the Te Aroha Meeting be held early in March (probably about 14th). The Chairman stated that already £40 had been promised towards the meeting, and he felt sanguine that the Club would meet with hearty and general support. In order to give them a start Mr J. McNirol had promised tn give £10 for the gate money. Mr McNicol had also suggested the advisability of providing for a trotting match as one cf the events, ansl thought it would take well. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows :—: — Messrs E. Maisey Thompson, President ; Judge, A. Downs ; Secretary, F. Pavitt, Treasurer, J. Don ; Starter, J. McNicol ; Clerk of Course, R. Parr ; Clerk of Scales, J. Mills. Stewards : Messrs G. Lipsey, E. W. Hanmer, J. Wiseman, T. Bradley, M. Harrison, J. Wood, E. Gallagher, G. Graves, T. Gavin, R. Brennan. Committee : Messrs A. Downes, T. Bradley, E. Gallagher, J. Don, N. Cleary, J, Wiseman, J. Wood, M. Murphy, U. Brennan. Handicappers : Messrs N. Cleary and R, Brennan. Resolved that a meeting of the Committee be held on Thursday evening- next at eight o'clock, for the purpose of drawing up a programme.
