Resident Magi strate's Court, TE AROHA. TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1889.

(Before H. W. Northcroft, Esq., R.M.) Police y, Thos.Wood. Defendant was charged on the information of Constable 'Wild, that he did on January 17th last, use dynamite for the purpose of destroying fish, contrary to the statute in such case. The information was laid under section 3 of " The Fisheries (Dynamite) Act, 1887." [The section quoted states that " Any person who uses dynamite or other explosive substance to catch or destroy fish in a public fishery, shall be liable on summary conviction, either to a fine not exceeding twenty pounds, or, in the discration nf the Court, to be imprisoned with nr without hard labour for a term not exceeding two months,"] Defendant pleaded 'guilty, but stated he was not a wore he was breaking the law, and said it was the first charge of dyn 'mite he had ever laid and discharged. Constable Wild stated on the day in question some shoals of mullet were in the river, and the discharge of dynamite killed about twenty of them. His Worship, accepting defendant? statement that lie acted in ignorance of the law, discharged him with a caution, at the sawte time pointing out the heavy penalty he laid himself open to. Robert Harris v. John Farrell, claim £2 lGs lOd for goods supplied. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for amount and costs 7s, Joseph Armit v. John F. Cocks, clam £5 43, amount of dishonoured note. No appeal ance of defendant. Judgment fur amount and 10s cos's. Larceny Charge : Barney Brown, a young man employed by George Given, charged a native with stealing a horse, 1 saddle and bridle, etc, in December last-. After several witnesses had been exatnined^thtt farther hearing of the case was -adjourned till February sth, to allow of an important witness in the case been subpoened. This was all the business. .
