WAIORONGOMAI.

[From our own Correspondent.] Waiouongomai, Saturday, Owing to the weak seasoning on one end of the wire rope which conveys timber across the Waiorongomai creek (Howland's contract), while bringing a rather heavier piece of timber than usual the rope collapsed, but beyond the temporary inconvenience occasioned, no damage was done. The Piako County Council are to be commended for authorising the Upper Horse track to be repaired during the present fine weather. I understand that Messrs H. H. Adams, H. McLiver, and some other shareholders in tin* Werahiko Licensed Holding, are agitating for the erection of a small Battery on their ground. Quartz of excellent quality is being broken out from this mine. MrD. McL. Wallace's newly-patented wire strainer, from what I hear, is likely to provo a gooJ thing for the shareholders. The Wesli?yan choir practice on Wednesday evening last was well attended. I understand those practices will take place fortnightly in future. A gentleman, said to be from Broken Hill, arrived here on Thursday last, and is the guest of Mr Howpll. The members of the Mining Accident Relief Fund will meet about the end of the month, when piobably the money now in hand will be handed over by Mr Adnma. The Waiorongomai crickxters since their defeat at. Katikati on Boxing Day, have not had a bat in their hands. It is to be regretted that so little energy is shown by the members of the Club.

Mr A. W. Edward's now advertisement will be founJ in our columns to day, announcing thnth? will offerduring the next three weeks, great bargains in millinery, piints, eto. Since taking possession of his very spacious and centrally situated ■ new premises, Mr Edwards has opened out from time to time very "largo consignments of: new goods in each department, including all the latest novelties of the .season ; ami as this sale is announced to bi«t for three weeks onty, intending purch. users will do well to pay an early visit t£ inspection,
