OHINEMURI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Paeroa, Friday. On Tuesdny Mr Jno. Phillips was the victim of the skitfcishness of two of his horses. Whilst being harnessed they became restive and smashed a portion of the buggy. No one was injured. On Thursday last Mr Jolin Kennedy, when returning from Karangahake, left his coach standing at Mr Quinns house, near Taiikie's creek for a fewminutes unattended, when the horses bolted. After galloping about a mile they came into contact with a row of posts which effectually stopped them ; the trap being damaged to some extent. It is stated that a number- of men will be put on very shortly by the Grown G. M. Co., Karangahake. Much satisfaction is expressed by lonal shareholders at the permanent, engagement of Mr Me Gruer as underground manager of the mine. At the Waitekauri Company's mine (which is now owned by Messrs Garland, M.L.A., N.S.W., ami others), operations will be shortly started again, and portions of the mine hitherto untouched opened up. Messrs E. M. Corbett and others are the snccessfull tenderers for a Jorge timber contract (600,000 feet Mangaio), for the Government, to be delivered at Wellington. The Paeroa Public Hall Company at their recent annual meeting of shareholders, declared a dividend of Is per share, and it was decided not to do anything by way of repairs to the hall until a better tenure was secure. An offer from Mr Edwards to lease the Hall for one year for £20 was accepted. The contractor fo«* the carting of the machinery to the JubUee mine. Waitekami, for Mr E. K. Cooper, having thrown up his contract, arrangements have been made with Mr O. Griffiths to do the work. The boiler, which weighs G tons, has been sent to Messrs Price, Bros.. Thames, to be thoroughly overhauled. Paeroa, Tuesday. Negotiations are proceeding between Mr T. Russell, of Auckland, and Messrs H. C. Savage, Stevenson, and the two other shareholders of the Britannia licensed holding, at Waihi, for its purchase. The proprietors ask for £2000 cash and the right to crush the quartz on the surface, which is broken out and valued at £800. Mr Chappell, of Sydney, is also after the property, but neither party has yet concluded the bargain, Mr Geo. Crosby has disposed of his line of coaches and the goodwill of the Paeroa-Taurnnga road to Mr Fenton, the new contractor for the mail service on the same route. ANNUAL RACE MEETING. The Ohinemnri Racing Club decided on Saturday to hold their St Patrick's Day meeting on Saturday March 16th. Tne balance 'sheet was read by the Secretary, showing a credit balance of £21. The programme arranged was as follows : — Maiden Race, LlO ; Maori Race, L 7 ; Hack Hurdles, LlO ; Hurdles, L2O ; Cup, L 25 ; Publicans' Purse, LlO ; Consolation, L 7. W. G. Nioholls was re-elected President, Messrs E. Edwards, Secretary, H. Brady, Clerk of Course, T. Shaw, Clerk of Scales, D. Snodgrass, JuHge, John Earl, Starter, and Mopsrs Walter Grant, Quinn, and Thos. Snodgrass, Hamlicappeis.
