Hidden Treasure. — Two tons and a-half of qu ,itz rvom this mine has just been put; bhruu^h Messrs Francis and Bon's pans for the excellent return of 3ozs to the ton ; the gold is of good quality, being worth over £3 per oz 90 per cent, of assay was secured. The ore put through was broken out of the big reef where the shaft lead strikes into it aud was cut in driving the upper or surface level, which gives about 25 feet of backb. The quartz under foot is good, gold being seen in the stone where broken out. A large quantity of ore is now in sight ready for breaking out. In driving the tunnel two large fissures were passed through, in which the clay and quartz rubble carrier an excellent show of gold. Two other lower level* have been put in and payable reefs ha\e been cut, averaging from one to foui ieet in thickness. The country in this mine is everything that could be desired for carrying gold, and sooner or later a rich patch should be unearthed. The %vhole hill appeals to be a mats of goldbearing veins and reefs, affording an almost unlimited supply of crushing t>tuff, arid the formation of the country i? such that 600 feet of backs can be obtained with a few hundred feet of driving. Arrangements are now being made to place machinery handy in connection with ths mine. Dawk of Hope. — This mine adjoins the Hidden Treasure, and work ha^ bee i going on for some time back in clearing out the old drive, with a view of reaching the shaft, « here if is said t ich gold was left when work was stopped borne years ago. A heavy fall from the old stopes ha^ somewhat impeded operations. Sxtrpkisk. — The late n'nd in tin* mine has greatly improved the prospects of the property, and the owner- will now ha\e no difficulty in keeping their 6 head of stamps employed on payable stuff. The old 4-stamp battery at the Brothers Creek, Tain 'a, is being put in oulerior Dixon and party, who have purchased it from Mr McLiver.
