MINING SCANDAL.
DU-N-EDJN, Nov. 17. Mk Eraser, solicitor, writing to the "Times," exposes a mining scandal. 50 miners have recently been employed m this province by a Melbourne company registered under the "no liability "' sections of the Victorian Act. Upon suspensioti of operations by the company the men were discharged, and refused pay ment of wages to the amount of £400. The company telegraphed from Melbourne that there are nof unds available to racetthiedebfc. and as the "no liability" sections of the Victorian Act provide that after a certain portion of the total amount of each share is paid up, fuibher calls cannot be enforced, the men are left without any legal remedy. Many of them, says MrFraser, are absolutely destitute and the majority are married men with families depending on them. The ."Times" says, editorially, that* the re&ult of the exposure will be to bring about an amendment of the New Zealand No Liability Act, which is similar to the Victorian one-
Sydndy, November 16. The man Thompon, who on the 29th ult. stabbed his wife in the abdomen with a large butcher's knife, was to-day brought up on the charge of wilful murder.
