THE TUI DISTRICT.

Work in the Champion Lode Co.'sclaim and on the Tui .Reduction Co.'s property is progressing steadily. There ore thirteen men employed on the hill, and the number is likely to be increased shortly. On the lvi Reduction Co.'s claim the working of the galena reef recently discovered has been commenced, and the stuff that has come to hand is of an excellent character, bearing between 50 and GO par cent of lead. The reef is a very large one, its course having been traced for a considerable distance There has also been a find of lead in the the Champion Lode Co.'s property, but it is not so pure as that of the Tui Reduction Co., being much intermixed with zinc blend. On Monday last Mr A. Parkes -went over the works on the hill. He speaks very highly of the find of galena on the Tui .Reduction Co.'s claim, and thinks it cannot fail to be of great imrortance to the country. Speaking of the future of the Tui District, Mr Parkes considers that operations there should be successful if skilfully worked, as in no part of the country has he come across such an abundance of metalliferous quarts as in the hills of the Te Aroha district.
