The Parkes' Furnace, KarangaHAKE.
After a series of delays filing was commenced in this furnace on Thursday, October 11, for the purpose or setting the foundation. So far Mr Parkes is very satisfied with the work, but the actual testing of the effecacy of the furnace to treat the ores in the Karangahake district will not be commenced until the end of the present week. The heat produced after twelve hours firing was intense, and although no fuel was put on after twclvo p.m , it was sustained up till eight a.m., sufficient in power to have melted 6teel. With reference to an erroneous impression which has got abroad, Mr Parkes wishes it to be distinctly understood that this furnace at Karangahake has nothing to do with the Champion Lode Co,, it being as a matter of fact a private speculation. Tlie furnace for the Champion Lode Co., Tui, will be commenced at the Tni as soon as the experiments at Karangabakc have been completed.
