OHINEMURI.
(From Oar Own Correspondent.) The event of the week has been tho sale of the Arizona mine at Peel's Creek, South Marototo, to a gentleman named Quayle, who represents both Australian and English capital. The mine in question is said to be a really good property, and has been'hcld for the past ten months as a registered claim by Messrs E. Quinn, J. Shaw, J. Corbett, M. Marrian, P. Byrnes, P. Miligan, Major Peel, and another. With this^ property the Tawa claim held by E. Ryanand others has been sold. The price of the Arizona is £1750 ensh. That of tho^Tawa has not transpired. Mr Quayle proceeds to England immediately and intends [floating the combined properties in the usual way. Mr John Ralph, late of Waitekauri, paid that place a visit on Monday last in order: to .inspect the claims known as the Mariposa, Mararoa, and Wairarapa. Mr Bayldon went out on Tuesday to survey. Mr Ralph informs me that while in Sydney with Mr Jno, Buchanan a first-class offer was made for these
properties on certain conditions, which no doubt will be fulfilled, l"he owners of the Saxon at Waitekau>ri, intend getting a fair sized parcel of average stone' — some two or three ton — taken out for testing at either Parkes' furnace or the Askham-Molloy works. There is very little doing at Karanga, hake. Work is briskly proceeding at : the Parkes furnace, tinder Messrs Parkes and Napier, and should start in about three weeks* At Wain?,- also,- there is nothing freßh to chronicle. Everything is going on smoothly and without a hitch, and the works are rapidly approaching completion. Mr Alfred Lockwood, whose recent invention of an ore reduction process has caused some interest, is about to leave for Sydney, where he has succeeded in getting a party to examine into the merits of the new method. I am informed by a Tauranga gentleman, well qualified to know, that the Tauranga County Council is endeavouring to get the Waihi district cat off from Ohinemuri and attached to their Comity. The parcel of quartz (less than a ton) from the Diamond mine, Karangahake, which has been treated at Messrs G. Frazer and Sons, Auckland, yielded lOozs Bdwt melted bullion, and sold at £1 Os 8d per ounce — invoice amount, £10 I2s 3d. Respecting the Waihi G. M. Co. property very favourable reports still come to hand. The manager is taking out first-class ore from the Rpsemont and Union levels, and he reports having commenced driving on the lode in the Rosemont low level, the reef being five feoc wide, and excellent ore. Good pro- ; gross is also being made with the erection of tbe machinery, and the coniractors will immediately start the erection of poppet legs, and smlc'ng tbe shaft. The Martha tributers cleaned up on Wednesday last, for 1290z. gold. Letters have been received by Messrs Dnnlop, of the Thames, and others from Mr Edward Kersey Cooper in which be states that he was leaving London by the Coptic on June Ilth. This vessel is due in Auckland on Thursday next. It is expected that Mr Cooper will immediately erect a plant on the ground and start treating the ore. It is stated by Mr Corbett that he can construct a plant to treat this dirt ab 4s per ton.
