THOMPSON'S TRACK.

Tavranoa County Council have taken up the construction of this track with energy, and appear determined to have the work carried out at an early date. The Council recently invited tenders for the construction of the track, which were opened at the meeting of Tauranga County Council on Monday last as follows :— C. Kennedy, Taurnnsja, LI 173 ; W". Gray, Katikati, LI 183 ; J. Wiseman, Walton, L 1336 10s; Dillon and McCrtbe, Waitoa, LH63 ; and J. Brain, Tauranga, L 2250, As the balance of the unexpended grant in the hands of the Government is only LOGO, an application is to be made for enough to enable the Council to accept the lowest tender. We may state for the information of those unacquainted with the proposed line of road, tlmt the track at its greatest altitude would be 400 feet lower than the top of the existing Kati Kati track. The distance from ShaFte<?bury to the enp of the bush on the Kati Kati side will be about eleven miles, the steepest gradelnotexceedinq 1 one inseve teen. From the end of the bush to where the track would junction with the main Thamos-Taurang-a road is three miles ; this portion having been already formed by the Kati Kati Road Board ; and the distance from Te Aroha to Shaffesbury being" eight miles, the total lenarth of the track would be about twenty-two miles. The present intention is to make a horse track eight feet in width, to be widened into a coach road as funds will admit.
