The annual licensing meeting takes place to-morrow at the Paeroa Public Hall, when several new licenses will be applied for. A petition has been circulated in Owharoa against the proposed publican's license for that place. Mr Alloy applies for a license for premiers situate this side of the Hikutaia bridge. At the Police Court on Wednesday, Edward Kelcher was charged before H. W. Northcroffc, Es:j, R.M., with blasting logs in a public place to wit, Cassrella-street, Paeroa, to the danger of passers by. Defendant pleaded guilty, and at the request of Constable Mitchell, was discharged with a caution. At the R.M. Court a large amount of | civil business was got 'through quickly, Amongst other cases Mr James Mackay was sued on two judgment summonses by Messrs Coote and Edwards for £9 Is and £15 15s respectively. The cases were adjourned for one month. A summons against W. A, Hunt for £190 for goods supplied by Messrs Jno. Phillips and Son was not served. Mr W. Gr. Nicholls sued Rewi Manawa for services rendered a 9 interpreter, £12 13s and was non-suited. In the case of Bobson v. Rusden for goods supplied, £5, defendant denied his liability. After a great deal of evidence had been given the Bench stated that there was no doubt of the liability oE defendant, and gave judgement for the amount claimed with costs. There is nothing fresh to report re mining. The second section of the large boiler for Waihi, came up per Kotuku ou Thursday, and was immediately carted out by Messrs Dickey and Verran. Messrs Walker and Corbett are now busily engaged in fixing up matters at Waihi, and it is hoped that everything will be in working order by the middle of spring. The Martha battery owners are repairing and adding somewhat to th*»ir plant. Nothing new from Waitekauri or Karangahake.'
