PARKES' GOLD-SAVING PROCESS.
Wrc (Auckland Herald) are pleased to learn that one of Mr Parkes' gold-9aving plants is to bo erected at Te Aroha, a short distance from the township, and near the entrance of the Tui Creek. This step has now been definitely decided on. Mr Parkes, through Mr John Chambers, had made an offer to the Woodstock Company (Karangahako), to erect a plant on their mine, and to treat the ore at a cost not exceeding £4 per ton, guaranteeing 90 per cent of the assay value of the ore, but the offer was rejected, the company thinking tha price too high. To show, however, tint the cost is reasonable, we have been shown returns from two lots sent to Adelaide for treatment One of these was a parcel from Whangamafca, the cost of treatment of which was £G 11s 6d per ton. The other was a parcel from To Aroha, the cost of treatment in this case being j£s Os 2id. Those charges were independent of freight or other expenses, simply the cost of treating the ore and extracting the bullion. In regard to the offer made to the Woodstock, Mr Chambers informs us that the charge of £4 was made on account of the comparatively inaccessibio locality of the mine, and bid roads, and they would much rather treat it at £3 per ton in a more suitable pl.ice. They have now decided to erect thi 1 * plant at To Aroha. It will bo a small affair at first — a plant for the treatment of 6 tons per day—but capable of extension as required. The furnace will be the same as that used at Swansea, with all its working appliances, but at the most, the present plant, although per feet in itself, will bo more in the nature of an oxpei imental plant, and to demonstrate* the process, and tho main works as originall intended will be erected on a ccntr.ity Mto on th<* Thdm^ "Kivov
