OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
A tm'ui.ic meeting in connection with the movement now on foot for the constitution of a Warden's Court for Ohinemuvi, was held in the Paeroa Public Hall, on Saturday evening last. There was a very fair attendance of local lesidonts. Mr Alfred Lockwood was voted to the chair and called upon Mr Edwards as the first speaker. "Mr Edwards briefly stated the object of the meeting, sketching out a plan by which the Court would cost the Government a very small annual sum by retaining the" present Clerk of the Court as Clerk of the Warden's office, appointing the County Clerk (Mr N. Kenny), Receiver ofjGolJficliU Revenue under the provisions of '• The Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885," and, instead of erecting a court-house, to n«o the present Hall. If the Warden' & Court was held on the same day as the li,M. Court, there need be no additional expense. Mr T. E, Shaw said he was of opinion \ the plan was a very feasible one, anil as ! the Government had an eye to ways and means when dealing with petitions, considering the small expense that would be incurred in connection with the proposed scheme it deserved success at the hands of th 3 Minister. Mr James W. Shaw thought that the miners should apply direct to the Government for what they des'ned in tli is matter Mr C. F. Mitchell said thai so far as (be heaving of any oases was concerned, he filt suie that the Wai .lon would nol refuse to bear such at Paeio.i. The great fault lay. however, in mon having to visit the Thames to take out applications, &c. Messrs Cassrclls and others spoke in f«»vor of the proposal, and it was losolved that a commfttee be appointed to lay the matter before the Minister of Mines and Justice through the County Council. Other Meetings are to be held at Waibi, Karangahukc and the other centres in the Ohinetnuri District. On ing to the visit of Uig Resident Magistrate to Taranaki there will be no Police or R.M. Court at Paeroa today, (Wednesday). Several interesting cases are on the tapis, one being an information laid against an Oliinemnri Licensed Victualler for keeping a disorderly house. Mining matters are quiet. News is now due, and is anxiously expected from Mr Kersey Cooper, of the Jubilee claim Wiutekauri, who wont Home some months ago to place the mine on the British Market, taking with him some valuable ore. Several claims have- been pegged out near the Jubilee in anticipation of Mr Cooper's success, which will, no doubt b»» accomplished. Mr J. W. Thorp ef Paeroa has a mining properly at Puriri now placed on the Sydney market which appears likely to be floated.
