THE PREMIER ON HOME RULE FOR IRELAND.
Wellington, March 17. Writing to the committee appointed to make arrangements in connection with the Home "Rule meeting last night, the Premier says : " My opinion upon this subject is well known, and my sincere sympathy js with those who desire to see Home Rule established in Ireland with the view not * only of doing justice to Irish peoplo taken as an attempt but of strengthening the union now sub sitting between Great Britain and Ireland, but while occupying the important position which I have now the honour to hold, I do not think I should be justified in attending any public meeting upon this question, as my doing so might be unreasonably taken as an attempt on my part to commit a large number of my fellow colonists, who unfortunately do not think as I do on this important subject.
