London, February 15. Lord Dunraven presided at a meeting of the Royal Colonial InstitutOj and in course of a speech made on that o<casion deprecated State Emigration; to the Colonies. The only danger pf the eventual federation of the British Empire was the possibility of the colonies giving better trading advantagei to foreigners than to the mother country.

Melbourne, February 16. The cars of the Melbourne Tramway Company will run as usual next week. The general opinion is that the strike was prematnre, and that the men had over estimated their strength There has been but little disorder in consequence of the strike. There was some mud throwing} and one of the Trades Unionists was fined for making use of abusive language.

Londok, February 14. In the House of Commons Uyd*y, the Hon, Mir 'Matthews, Home Secretary, admitted that the police had i blundered when they arrested Mr P. ' OBrien, M.P., instead of Mr J.Gil-, hooly, M.F. 'for 'Cork West, and he tendered an apology. Mr Morley moved that the question of privilege be referred to a. Committee of the House, but the amendment of the. Government, regretting the indignity offered to Mr OBrien, was carried.
London, February 14. The barque Ann Mcllicont, bound from Liverpool to Adelaide, has been wrecked at Timor, an island of the Indian Archipelago.
