Karangahake Mines.
The Mammoth. Prospecting operations in the Mammothmine are still being continued with unabated vigour, and soveral lodes carrying a fair percentage of gold and silver have already been unearthed, bub better results are anticipated, as tho work is continued under the management of Mr Argall, who is representing the syndicate of London capitalists that are in treaty for the purchase of the property.
The Woodstock. Heiteman and party, tributera in the Woodstock mino, have about 50 tons oi ore to pass, and from this they expect & battery return of 150ozs. melted bullion, value 558 per ounce. The reef from which this stuff is being obtained is fully 6ft. wide, and the whole of the stone is of good quality.
Keailworth. In theKcnil worth mine, Moore and party w tributers, are sinking a winze to connect with the low lovel for ventilation purposeß, and to serve i\s a ba&is for sloping operations. This winze in now clown to a depth of 18 feet, and the reef line, measuring 2 feet 6 inches in thickness, carries a high percentage of both gold and silver through- ; out
Shipment of Ores. This week. 15 tons of stone have beer* dispatched from the Crown mine to Auckland, from whence it will be snipped Home for the information of a syndicate of Glasgow capitalists who are willing to invest money in the development of the property.
Prospecting. A party of miners have unearthed some very rich cold bearing quartz boulders on the western bank of the Olrinemuri ri6esand a considerable amount of prospecting is now being done with a view to finding the reef or reefs from whence there stones have detached themselves.
Waitekaurl. The late spell of fine weather has had the effect of drying up nearly all the creeks and streams in this neighbourhood, and as a natural consequence the batteries are all hung up for want of water to supply the requisite motive power for reduction purposes. At) the different mines there are several large parcels of quartz awaiting treatment, but of course nothing can be don* 1 wif.h it till the advens ol the ensuing Avct season.
Wai hi. Tbo tributers in the Martha mine have a large tonnage of quartz to grass, but there is no water available for crushing purposes,, and nothing short of a heavy downpour of rain will meet the requirements.
. Owharoa. This district is also suffering from want of water, the battery having now been hung up for some time past, and there is no sign of rain at present.
